Graduado Astronauta

Aleksey Sher “Graduado Astronauta” started training capoeira in 2007 with Graduado Rasta (Julio Monteiro) in Vancouver. He quickly developed an appreciation for the richness of the art form. He began teaching capoeira consistently in 2013.

Graduado Astronauta strives to make rapid and safe development of his students a priority. His classes are tailored to promote development and engagement of all participants, whether it be a complete novice or a seasoned capoeirista. Everyone is encouraged to work together and progress.

He believes that to keep learning one has to follow the source, and regularly travels to Brazil to deepen his understanding of capoeira. Over the past 10 years he has attended many workshops in Canada, USA, Mexico, Europe, Puerto Rico, Russia and Brazil. He has been fortunate enough to participate in technical seminars with many Mestres, Mestrandos and Professores within ABADÁ-Capoeira. Since 2017, he comptinues to compete in the ABADÁ-Capoeira Jogos Mundiais (World Games). He managed to advance to the quarter finals in his category in 2017, and reached semi-finals in 2021. His last graduation was in 2023, when he received his green-purple cord (verde-roxa) at CEMB (Centro Educacional Mestre Bimba in the state of Rio de Janeiro) during the World games.

He firmly believes that learning never stops and we can always keep growing.
